Police investigate texting bus driver video

Video of a bus driver texting while heading up Adelaide’s South Eastern Freeway is being investigated by police.

The vision was taken by a passenger and clearly shows the driver’s focus repeatedly shifting from the road to his phone.

He has been taken off the road by his employer Southlink pending an internal investigation.

The company said it will use the video and CCTV from inside the bus to investigate.

“It is certainly up there with one of the most irresponsible things drivers can do,” Charles Mountain from the RAA said.

Passengers who spoke with 7News today were furious.

“He should be banned from driving – he shouldn’t be allowed on the road for sure,” one said.

Another said: “He’s got other peoples’ lives in his hands and should be concentrating. If he’s done it once, he’s likely to do it again.”

Police have now launched their own investigation.

The driver could face a $360 fine and three demerit points.

“It’s bad enough for someone doing this sort of thing in their own private vehicle driving along a quiet street, but to have a situation where this has been recorded just really does beggar belief,” Mr Mountain said.
