Screeners' strike averted at Adelaide Airport

Screeners at Adelaide Airport are likely to back down on threats of strike action, their union says.

The Transport Workers’ Union (TWU) has said negotiations on a new workplace agreement are almost complete and screeners would now vote on the new conditions.

A statement released by the union said negotiations were ‘all but done’.

“A final Agreement will be distributed to our members for a postal vote and if accepted by the majority of employees will mean that any disruption to the travelling public in this busy period of footy fever and school holiday travel will be averted,” the statement said.

Aviation screeners at Adelaide Airport had been demanding a 15 per cent pay increase with a four per cent annual increase after that.

Earlier this week, the union said meeting these demands would have only brought the Adelaide workers into line with the wages of their interstate counterparts.
