Wild weather hits Adelaide
A woman has been injured after a large tree crashed onto cars in a shopping centre as wild winds touchdown in Adelaide.
She was injured when a large tree fell onto five cars at the Northpark Shopping Centre this afternoon and was treated at the scene by ambulance officers.
The Bureau of Meteorology had been warning of damaging winds for much of the state this afternoon, including gusts of up to 90km/h in some areas.
A car was severely damaged at Cumberland Park when a large tree was blown over and it landed on the car’s bonnet.
City-bound lanes on Main North Road were also blocked off this afternoon after a large tree was blown onto the road.
Winds of more than 90km/h have been recorded at Port Lincoln, Mount Crawford, Minlaton, Edinburgh, Snowtown and Yunta, while the highest wind gust recorded has been 100km/h at Port Lincoln.
Strong winds also blew large trees onto homes at Hackham West, South Plympton and Coromandel Valley throughout the day, requiring assistance from the State Emergency Service.
Electricity was cut to more than 5000 homes during the storm.
A severe weather warning is still in place, but the Bureau of Meteorology forecast said winds are expected to gradually moderate overnight.
