South Australian Premier Steven Marshall is losing his most senior official, with Jim McDowell stepping down as chief executive of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Mr McDowell will leave the role on November 27 to return to the private sector and will be replaced by BankSA chief executive Nick Reade.
Mr Marshall said Mr McDowell had been instrumental in leading South Australia and the public sector throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said Mr Reade would bring a wealth of experience to the role after 30 years in financial services.
Mr Reade will take up his new job in February next year with Jon Gorvett, executive director of intergovernmental and diplomatic relations, to act as chief executive from November 27 to February 8.
