Ryan Reynolds has vowed to bring celebrity pal Will Ferrell to Wrexham AFC's stands to bolster the club's A-list support.

The Deadpool star and his pal Rob McElhenney, who stars in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, are currently visiting Wrexham for the first time since buying the football club and have promised to visit Wales as often as they can.

But while the England team may have attracted the likes of Tom Cruise to the crowd during the Euros, National League team Wrexham won't be short of famous fans despite being a fifth tier club.

Hollywood star Reynolds, speaking at a press conference at the Racecourse Ground on Thursday, said: "I would love to get Will Ferrell here, he's a pal and a fan and I've just finished working with him, so I'd really like to get him here to the Racecourse."

Elf star Ferrell is an LAFC fan and part-owns the club, so he may have some words of wisdom for Reynolds.

The interview took an awkward turn when Reynolds, who didn't realise that the interview was on a live stream, had to apologise for swearing.

McElhenney had promised: "It’s a 160-year-old team and we want to see them win in our lifetime", when Reynolds joked: "Yeah, but if a meteorite hits we’re all f***ed."

As one reporter pointed out he was live on air, he said: "I'm so sorry, I had no idea."

The stars also said that they had enjoyed a night out with Wrexham's players and fans at the nearby hotel bar The Turf.

Reynolds said: "They'll be bored of us soon I hope, but we got to hang out at The Turf last night and had a few too many drinks.

McElhenney added: "I was expecting to drink, but I wasn't expecting to have multiple shots of gin...I'm surprised we didn't end up back here on the pitch...maybe we did."

TV star McElhenney said of having a kick about with the players: "It was a boyhood dream for me. I was always a terrible athlete but a huge sports fan. The fact they welcomed me, a 44-year-old man to kick a ball around, it was a boyhood dream."

Both actors said that their aim was to make Wrexham AFC a global name and a Premier League club eventually and spoke about the documentary they plan on making about it.

Promising that this would be "the first trip of many" to Wales, Reynolds and McElhenney said that their children had become big Wrexham fans, too.

Reynolds, who has three daughters with wife Blake Lively, said of the club's merchandise: "My kids will be head to toe whether they like it or not."

Asked what was next after buying a football club, he joked: "Go into space, lately that's been the thing."
