Ryan, Aust men's triples set for gold shot

Ellen Ryan and Australia's men's triples team of Barry Lester, Carl Healey and Ben Twist could purse lawn bowls gold when medal rounds begin in Birmingham on Monday.

Ryan overcame an early deficit to beat Scot Dee Hoggan 21-9 on Sunday while Twist skippered his men to 24-14 win over Malaysia that looked unlikely when they trailed 10-3.

Lester is a three-time Commonwealth Games medallist dating back to 2006's Melbourne Games, but is still chasing gold.

They will face Fiji on Monday morning, while Ryan will meet Norfolk Island's Shae Wilson at the Victoria Park complex.

In other group action on Sunday, Australia's men's para pairs team beat Wales 15-11 but the women's equivalent lost 22-5 to England.
