The Russian soldier was waiting for evacuation for 21 days, said the border guards. The man is 34 years old and hails from Russia's Tver Oblast, they said.

The soldier said he came to fight against Ukraine for money. His unit crossed the Ukrainian border in Kharkiv Oblast on May 10. He was injured on May 12 by a drone drop.

The footage shows the soldier, who identifies himself as Edik, approaching the Ukrainian soldiers with his hands raised, indicating that he surrendered voluntarily. Edik recounted that the Russians had ordered him to stay in the building and promised to retrieve him.

"I was wounded in the arm..." he said.

"There is still a fragment left. They told me to stay here. Well, I thought they would take me or something. I've been here since the 12th [of May]."

During assault operations in Vovchansk, the border guards seized four Russian firing positions and eliminated six soldiers, the border guard said.
