Russian army discussed nuclear use: NYT

High-ranking Russian military leaders recently discussed when and how they might use a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine, the New York Times says in a report citing senior US officials.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was not a part of these conversations, according to the NYT report.

US officials said they had seen no evidence that the Russians were moving nuclear weapons into place or taking other tactical measures to prepare for a strike.

However, the fact that senior Russian military leaders were even having such discussions alarmed the administration of US President Joe Biden.

"Intelligence about the conversations was circulated inside the US government in mid-October," the NYT report suggested.
