Moscow’s apparent plan to shift the Russian economy to a war footing is “not sustainable,” UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said on May 20.

"Putin's total economic mobilization is simply unsustainable, and he knows it," Shapps wrote in a post on X.

He added that sustained allied support of Ukraine over the coming years could cause Russia’s industry to buckle.

“If all allies match the UK’s pledge to maintain support to Ukraine for the next 6 years, we can exploit this weakness & make it impossible for the Russian economy to maintain its war effort,” the secretary wrote.
