Romesh Ranganathan has joked that he was a bit scared of Tyson Fury when the boxer was on his show A League Of Their Own.

Fury made a guest appearance on the sports-based game show this week, as it returned for a new series. And comedian Ranganathan revealed that he was careful what he said to the boxing superstar.

Speaking on The One Show, he quipped that he didn't want to go too far with his "gentle mickey-taking" and run the risk that Fury would "spark me out".

The One Show host Alex Jones brought up the actor and comedian's Sky series when he appeared on the programme on Friday, 10 January and asked: "Apparently there was one celebrity that you were a little bit scared of?"

"Yeah," Ranganathan confirmed. "We had Tyson Fury on, he was on the show that was out last night.

"It's just difficult because obviously as the host of the show, you know that you are going to give them a little bit of sort of, like, gentle mickey-taking. And obviously you don't know how Tyson Fury is going to react."

He went on: "I don't think... what I get nervous about is I am going to say one thing too many and then he'll sort of spark me out."

"It would definitely make the edit but it's not good for my dignity!" laughed the TV star. "So early on in the show you kind of, I try a couple of light jokes to see how it goes."

He went on: "But actually he was a really good sport so the fear subsided eventually."

Ranganathan also told how thrilled he was that his quiz show The Weakest Link was among the Top 10 most viewed programmes on Christmas Day in 2024, saying that when he started out in comedy "that was always my goal".

However, the father-of-three quipped that while his show may have been airing in many households that day, it wasn't on the television in his own home.

"A lot of people complain that I am on the telly a lot," he said. "Not in my house I'm not. My children have got no interest, my wife's got no interest. I have never been on the TV in my house, I don't think."

The One Show airs at 7pm on BBC One on weekdays.

A League Of Their Own airs at 9pm on Thursdays on Sky Max and NOW.

The Weakest Link is on at 7.50pm on BBC One on Saturday, 11 January.
