The new series of The Hit List started with a bang, concluding with what presenter Rochelle Humes described as "the closest round we've ever had" on the show. Winning duo Sam and Comfort made their way through to the final by the skin of their teeth.

They just about bested father-daughter duo Adam and Ella, who were faced with just four seconds to identify their final song. Unfortunately for them, they weren't quite quick enough to seal their place in the jackpot round.

The first episode of The Hit List's seventh series came down to a clash between Adam and Ella and work pals Sam and Comfort. Adam and Ella had just four seconds to identify a song taken from an act who had been the subject of a biopic movie.

Adam and Ella had already worked out that their chosen question was going to be about Queen, but didn't manage to identify the track Innuendo within the four seconds. Unfortunately, Adam was able to recognise the track immediately after the klaxon went off. But it was too late.

"Goodness gracious me," said Rochelle in response to the tight conclusion. "That was the closest round we've ever had of this, I believe."

Viewers joined Rochelle in her reaction to the quiz, with one audience member tweeting that it was "a tight penultimate round". Another wrote that the difficulty level of the show in general was "ridiculous" and added: "Obscure tunes from the beginning is UNBELIEVABLY difficult."

Sam and Comfort would've had a tough act to follow if Ella and Adam had managed to get the correct answer, with just three seconds left on their own clock.

Sam and Comfort went through to the final round and left with £6,039 after making it through 'The Final Chart Rundown', naming 10 songs before their money ran out. Their final song was Written in the Stars by Tinie Tempah feat. Eric Turner, earning them the cash prize with plenty of time to spare.

"That was the most nerve-wracking thing I've ever done in my life," said a relieved Comfort after they finally secured the win.

The Hit List airs on Saturday nights at 6.20pm on BBC One.
