Robert Redford's son, James Redford, dies at 58

Hollywood icon Robert Redford’s son, James Redford, has sadly passed away at the age of 58.

The 58-year-old filmmaker‘s wife, Kyle Redford, confirmed the news on her Twitter account and told The Salt Lake Tribune he died from liver cancer, after it was discovered last November.

“Jamie died today,” Kyle wrote on Twitter. “We’re heartbroken. He lived a beautiful, impactful life and was loved by many.

“He will be deeply missed. As his wife of 32 yrs, I’m most grateful for the two spectacular children we raised together. I don’t know what we would’ve done w/o them over the past 2yrs.”

James was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis and received two liver transplants in 1993.

He went on to open the James Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness,

James Redford was mostly known for his documentary work, with his 2012 doco, The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia being inspired by his son, Dylan’s, battle with dyslexia.

He also produced Watershed: Exploring a New Water Ethic for the New West and Toxic Hot Seat, a film which uncovers the health problems caused by exposure to flame-retardant chemicals used in furniture.

In 2014 he produced Paper Tigers and in 2016 Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope.
