The scaffolding crushed the pair’s Australia Post van, but both men escaped without injury.

Brayden Tory, a witness at the scene, spoke to Nine News about what he saw.

“I was inside the building and I heard ‘doof’, ‘doof’, ‘doof’, came running down and just saw half the van chopped off,” he said.

The police have blocked off Pitt Street between Bathurst and Liverpool Street after the incident.

Other photos from the scene show the entire back of the van demolished.

Officers received reports scaffolding had fallen from a building on Pitt Street.

Police found debris on top of a truck when they arrived at the scene.

A man in his 50s, who was inside the truck, was assessed by NSW Ambulance but didn’t require treatment.

It’s understood CPB Contractors are the lead on the project and dismissed staff from site about 10.15am, according to The Daily Telegraph.

“If you work for CPB you can go home,” a representative reportedly called out.

A man who was inside the building when he heard the crashing of the crane said it’s “lucky no one was killed” in the incident.

“The rope snapped and it just crash landed on the van,” Brayden Tory told The Daily Telegraph.

“An older guy dived out of the way … it’s really lucky no one was killed.

“Two metres difference and (the bloke) would have been killed.”
