Rihanna has followed in the footsteps of Beyonce and recorded a duet with Colombian singer Shakira.

Rapper Pitbull has revealed he had initially wanted to recruit Rihanna for his hit song Timber, but she was already busy in the studio with the Latin singer, so he decided to team up with Ke$ha for the track instead.

He says, "The person we were looking at first to work on that record was actually Rihanna! And Rihanna had something she had to do with Shakira and wasn't able to work on our record."

The Rihanna/Shakira collaboration is expected to feature on Shakira's next album, the follow-up to 2010's Sale el Sol.

Beyonce and Shakira had a pop hit together in 2007 with Beautiful Liar.
