These are the richest families in the world
Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Bernard Arnault; you might think you know who ranks at the very upper echelons of the world’s rich list.
But when it comes to the collective wealth of a family, who’s at the top? The Kardashian-West clan? Or the family of US President Donald Trump?
As it turns out, it’s neither: instead, Mexican and American actress Salma Hayek and French billionaire husband François-Henri Pinault take the title.

Collectively, the Hayek-Pinaults have amassed a total family net worth of US $7.13 billion, or AU $10.17 billion, according to new research.
The Kardashian-Wests have about half of that, with a total of AU $5.12 billion. The Trumps follow behind in third place, with a collective fortune of $4.51 billion.
On the top 10 list of richest families are some other familiar names, like Jay-Z and Beyonce ($2.86 billion), Nicky Hilton and her husband James Rothschild ($1.49 billion), Jennifer Lopez and her basketballer husband Alex Rodriguez ($1.2 billion), the Trump-Kushners ($1.14 billion) and the Jolie-Pitts ($928.4 million).
How the Hayek-Pinaults became the richest family
Hayek married Pinault in 2009 after dating for three years.
François-Henri Pinault might not be a household name, but the brands owned by his company, Kering Group, are.
The company, which he took over from his father in 2005, owns Balenciaga, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Alexander McQueen.
Pinault is also the founder of Groupe Artemis, a French holding company which owns a fine arts auction house, a winery, a French weekly political newspaper and magazine, a football club, and a Parisian theatre close by the Champs-Elysee.
But Hayek herself was worth $206 million on her own before marrying Pinault.
When donations came pouring in to rebuild the fire-damaged Notre Dame in April 2019, Pinault and his father donated $163 million for the rebuild.
However, while Hayek and Pinault are the wealthiest family, Bezos, Gates and Arnault have individual net worths many times over that of the Hayek-Pinaults.
