Retail worker takes vengeance on 'jerk' customer looking for Christmas discount

A retail worker has shared a Christmas story of vengeance and spite after an aggressive spat with an entitled customer.

Despite the incident happening almost 20 years ago, the outraged worker took to Facebook to tell her tale, saying she could not enjoy Christmas until she got it off her chest.

Sarah Belanger Demaneuf, from North Alabama in the US, was working at an unnamed retail chain when she got the ultimate revenge after an argument over a Christmas decoration.

Posting a photo of a Christmas star, Ms Belanger Demaneuf told the story behind how she came to purchase it.

“This is my favourite Christmas ornament, but rather than symbolise peace and goodwill, as it should, it symbolises vengeance and spite,” she wrote.

“I was working at a local retail store after Christmas and all of our ornaments were reduced to 75 per cent off.

“This little star was 50 cents. A terrible woman (dressed to the nines and driving a high-end Lexus so pretty well off) came into the store and wanted four star ornaments, but wanted to only pay 25 cents a piece.”

Ms Belanger Demaneuf said the store was “not a yard sale” and told the woman she would have to pay 50 cents for the ornament.

She claims the woman became “increasingly rude and belligerent”.

“After not bullying me into caving she said, ‘Fine! My friend works at the other store in Huntsville and she told me that all the ornaments will be 90 per cent off tomorrow, so I’ll just come back in the morning’,” Ms Belanger Demaneuf explained.

She told the customer she couldn’t guarantee the stars would still be in stock.

“And the jerk said, ‘There are 12 in the store. No one is going to buy all 12. I’ll get what I want, prepare to feel stupid tomorrow’,” the woman recalled.

In an act of rage Ms Belanger Demaneuf said she then purchased all 12 ornaments in her store before calling the Huntsville shop to buy them out of stock. She said she bought the ornaments in every colour so the woman could not purchase them.

“It was the most vengeful $30 I ever spent,” she said.

“The next morning she was at the store as soon as we had opened. I had the pleasure of telling her that ALL of the star ornaments in North Alabama had been sold to one customer.

“The look on her face was worth every penny spent.”

Ms Belanger Demaneuf has given the stars she bought to friends at Christmas time, but has kept one for herself.

“I still smile when I hang it one my tree,” she said.
