Why resort is banning phones from luxury pool

A resort has made the decision to ban phones and iPads from its poolside.

Ayana Resort and Spa in Bali describes its “secluded” River Pool as a “two-tiered river stone pool” within close proximity to its private villas.

However, anyone looking to get a poolside selfie showing off their holiday tan can’t do so between the hours of 9am until 5pm.

“The ethos of River Pool is to create a place of tranquillity, where our guests can truly relax and be ‘in the moment’,” the page reads.

“To ensure River Pool remains a haven for guests we limit the use of mobile phones, cameras, iPads, and any other electronic equipment between 9am – 5pm.”

Anyone who wishes to do so can still use their electronic device between 7am-9am or 7pm-9pm or visit one of the resorts other four swimming pools.

“So, during your time at River Pool (from 9am-5pm) we promise there will be no calls, no text, no pictures, and no social media – just you, River Pool and this moment!” the page reads.

It’s not known when this policy was introduced but travel writer Leslie Patrick Moore told News Corp when she last visited “everyone around the pool had a phone in hand”.

“I think Ayana’s electronic device ban is a great idea, and will make the whole poolside experience more peaceful and authentic,” she said.
