Residents outraged after disabled parking spaces blocked by inconsiderate drivers

Residents in Sydney have been left angered over a video appearing to show a number of blocked disabled parking spaces.

Footage uploaded to Facebook on Saturday shows the carpark at Liverpool in Greater Western Sydney packed with cars.

Three are seen parked in the yellow striped area next to disabled spots – zones that are technically not parks.

These spots are designed to create space for people with disabilities to easily access wheelchairs and walkers when getting in and out of their vehicles.

“I was shocked when I entered as all spots were full,” the man who posted the video wrote on Facebook.

Another man called for the police to fine all of them.

“What would have made me happy was to see a cop issuing fines to all those cars,” he said.

“What would have made me even happier was if no one had parked in the hatched spaces.”

Earlier this month a woman in Brisbane was photographed also parked in the yellow zone next to a disabled spot.

“I explained to the driver that by parking illegally on the yellow lines that a pwd (person with disabilities) now couldn’t use this disability parking spot as there isn’t room for them to get a wheelchair alongside the door of their car,” a woman wrote on the photo posted to Facebook.

“Response was ‘Oh’ and walked off to collect her takeaway. Some people just don’t care.”
