Rescuers amazed after skunk gets head stuck inside beer can
The phrase “as drunk as a skunk” has been given a new meaning after a critter somehow managed to get its head stuck in a discarded can of beer.
Animal control officers in Billerica, Massachusetts, US, tweeted a picture of the unfortunate animal in a precarious predicament on Friday.
They said it was “amazing” the skunk’s head could fit into such a small opening.
Police said the skunk was taken to Tufts Wildlife Clinic in North Grafton after being found Wednesday.
The plan was to sedate the skunk before removing the aluminium can, and then monitor the animal for a few days before returning it to the wild.
The rescue comes after a brushtail possum with a sweet tooth was found with its head stuck in a jar of Nutella in the Queensland suburb of Loganholme last year.
Wildlife officials also tracked a black bear cub for three days to tranquillise it and remove a bucket that had gotten stuck on its head, in the US state of Maryland last October.
