Alvin Kamara signs five-year, $75 million extension with Saints

The New Orleans Saints are the latest team to give their running back a huge deal. Alvin Kamara agreed to a five-year, $75 million extension with the Saints on Saturday, the team confirmed.

Yahoo Sports’ Terez Paylor confirmed the news.

Prior to signing the extension, Kamara was set to become a free agent following the 2020 season.

Kamara, 25, has emerged as one of the best running backs in the NFL after being selected by the Saints in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In 2019, Kamara rushed for 797 yards and 5 touchdowns. He caught 81 passes for 533 yards and 1 receiving touchdown. It was a down year for Kamara, who played through most of the season despite a knee injury.

Despite not hitting his usual numbers, Kamara still made the Pro Bowl in 2019. He’s made the Pro Bowl every year of his career.

Big paydays for running backs have been commonplace recently. Right around the time the Kamara news broke, the Minnesota Vikings announced running back Dalvin Cook had agreed to a new deal himself, reportedly worth five years and $63 million. That all happens after the Cincinnati Bengals and Joe Mixon agreed to a four-year, $48 million extension on the first day of the month.
