She is famed for her youthful appearance, but Reese Witherspoon's fans have been left particularly amazed by a new picture taken beside her lookalike children.

The actress, 45, posed for a sweet family snap with her daughter Ava, 21, and 17-year-old son Deacon – leading to the star being called the third triplet.

Captioning the adorable image, shared to Instagram, she wrote: "Gosh, I’m lucky to be their mom."

Her post was popular with social media users, who left more than 828,000 'likes' – with many noting how similar the trio looked.

Cindy Crawford, the model, wrote: "You look like their sister!"

Another commented: "If I didn’t know you were their mama, I’d think Y'ALL were triplets."

A third shared: "They are lucky to have you!!"

And the actress Diane Keaton left a string of red heart emojis.

Witherspoon is also mother to eight-year-old son Tennessee with her husband, the talent agent Jim Toth.

Her two elder children are from her first marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe, who she split with in 2008.

It comes after the mother-of-three revealed this week how she was left in tears by a TIME magazine story in 2015 that mocked her as well as fellow entrepreneurs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Blake Lively and Jessica Alba.

Speaking on the We Are Supported By podcast, she said: "I had started a clothing business. Gwyneth was really growing Goop. Blake Lively had a business, Jessica Alba had a business and they did a caricature cartoon of all of us.

"We were in ballgowns and they stuck our heads on, and Jessica was holding an iron and I was holding a vacuum cleaner. The whole thing was so offensive that I burst into tears."

She added: "I'm not even talking about ten years ago.

"I'm talking about 2015 when we decided, ok we’re going to be entrepreneurial, take a swing, invest our own money, our own time, our own reputation and try to do something that George Clooney has done, Robert De Niro has done — and getting lampooned for it.

"That message to little girls is: 'If you've had success in one area, you can't have success in another.'"
