Reece Walsh and Broncos in brilliant gesture as fans divided over Ben Hunt's move with wife
The Brisbane Broncos are doing their bit for kids in need at Christmas time.
Reece Walsh and the Broncos have helped spread some Christmas cheer at Ronald McDonald House in Brisbane as part of the club's annual 'Full of Kindness' campaign. The Broncos run an annual 'toy drive' in conjunction with Kia in which the public can donate toys to kids doing it tough.
Players then take the toys and hand them out at Ronald McDonald House, the Starlight Children’s Foundation and Ipswich Hospital. The initiative is aimed at trying and ease some of the burden on families with sick kids at Christmas time so they don't have to worry about buying presents.
"People at the Broncos and all of us as a club are pretty passionate about giving back and especially for those people who need that Christmas spirit over this time, especially if they're going through a hard time," star prop Payne Haas said earlier this month. "I'm passionate as a person about giving back, it puts some smiles on people's faces, so it means a lot."
On Saturday, NRL players Walsh and Kotoni Staggs joined NRLW star Romy Teitzel at Ronald McDonald House to hand out the gifts. "Seeing the kids smile when you walk in and bringing the presents out, it's priceless," Walsh said. "We really enjoy these times coming here and seeing the little kids and helping out wherever we can."
Teitzel said: "Christmas should be really special for everyone, no matter where you are. Unfortunately a lot of these families can't be in their homes, which is a really special place for a lot of people. So to be able to give back to these families is pretty special to us as a club and individuals."

NRL fans divided over Ben Hunt's move with wife
Meanwhile, fans have been left heavily divided over reports about where Ben Hunt might be living with his family while playing for the Broncos. The 34-year-old will return to the Broncos in 2025 after a seven-year stint with the Dragons, handing the club a huge boost.
But the veteran halfback has reportedly been looking at property on the Gold Coast, which might not sit well with Broncos officials. According to the Courier Mail, the Broncos hierarchy have identified it as a problem that players like Walsh and Patrick Carrigan live so far away from the club's Red Hill headquarters.
It can take up to 90 minutes to travel from the Gold Coast to Brisbane depending on traffic, and the Broncos coaching staff have reportedly had to tweak training schedules in the past to accommodate players who live on the 'Glitter Strip'. New coach Michael Maguire won't be imposing a mandate that players have to live in Brisbane, but his preference is for them to be closer than the Gold Coast.
An unnamed Broncos staffer previously said: “It was a nightmare. Players would want to finish weights sessions early to beat the peak-hour traffic to the Gold Coast. I never liked the idea of Broncos players living on the Gold Coast.”

And a poll of Yahoo Sport Australia readers shows how divisive the issue is. In a poll of over 5000 fans, 52 per cent believe players should be able to live wherever they choose, while 48 per cent say it's better for team culture to live in the area.
It's no coincidence the Panthers have won four-straight premierships considering how connected they are to the local region. The majority of their squad - including Nathan and Ivan Cleary - live in Penrith, and local juniors aspire to play for the Panthers rather than chase more money at other clubs.
