How innocent photo highlights 'infuriating' pocket problem

An innocent image has highlighted one of many female frustrations when it comes to clothes, drawing attention to a problem that commonly goes unnoticed.

The issue was captured in a Reddit post on Tuesday in the “mildly infuriating” subreddit, and appeared to show a full-sized Nintendo Switch handset fitting a men’s pant pocket with ease, but the same could not be said for a women’s pocket.

In fact, only part of a Switch Lite, which is marginally smaller than a regular Switch, was able to be squeezed into an example of the miniature pockets typically attached to female pants, the Redditor claimed.

Thousands seemed to relate to the conundrum, but some actually thought the female pocket pictured was a particularly large example.

“That is a spacious pocket for women’s jeans,” one person, who wasn’t alone, pointed out.

“My pockets can hardly hold Chapstick. Where did she get her pants? I need them,” another said.

“I'm genuinely surprised her pockets could fit even a corner of the Switch, let alone that much,” a third wrote.

One claimed they were fooled by a fake pocket recently when attempting to put their hand in their girlfriend’s back pocket, only to have it blocked by a one-centimetre flap.

Many agreed there was nothing more frustrating than being lied to by a pair of pants, with some even calling on people who wore women’s pants to boycott all pairs with fake pockets completely.

Someone joked it was the size of female pant pockets that ensured the patriarchy remained dominant.

“It’s how the patriarchy keeps women down and prevents them from dismantling the system. Without full pockets it’s just too hard for them to get it together,” they wrote.

Another said the inequality was “disgusting” and questioned “How else are the women gonna carry their Switches?”

One Redditor chimed in with what they presumably believed to be the answer: “Spoiler: women are free to buy any style pant they want.”
