'Reckless' teen lucky to be alive after crash sends scooter flying across road

A young scooter rider is lucky to be alive after blindly crossing four lanes of traffic before hitting a car in Sydney’s west.

Dramatic dashcam footage captured at an intersection in Riverstone shows the moment the teenager crosses into oncoming traffic just moments after looking down at his phone.

Seconds after he exits the frame his scooter can be seen flying back in the direction he came from, eventually landing three lanes over.

The stunned truck driver, whose dash cam captured the incident, can be heard jumping out of the vehicle to tend to the boy as traffic comes to a standstill.

Remarkably, the scooter rider wasn’t injured and reportedly rode away from the scene, however, his “reckless” actions have since been heavily criticised on social media, with many questioning why he didn’t use the crossing just metres up the road.

“It’s incredible that he wasn’t killed. Gotta feel for the driver who hit him,” one woman wrote.

“Absolutely nothing he could do to avoid it, but he’ll be quite traumatised regardless.”

“Lucky it wasn’t another truck or bus coming up that lane.”
