Villarreal have signed Japanese attacker Takefusa Kubo from Real Madrid on a season-long loan.

Kubo, who was at Barcelona as a youth player, signed for Los Blancos last summer after a spell back in his homeland, but spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Mallorca.

"Villarreal and Real Madrid have reached an agreement for the loan of Takefusa Kubo," Villarreal said on Twitter. "Welcome to Villarreal, Take!"

Real Madrid also shared the news in a statement of their own, which was posted on social media and on their official website.

The 19-year-old, who impressed in pre-season for Real Madrid last summer, scored four goals in 36 appearances for Mallorca this term, but could not save the islanders from relegation.

Villarreal, who will be coached by former Arsenal manager Unai Emery next season, are also closing in on the signing of Valencia midfielders Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin in a double deal for around €13million.
