Real Madrid have loaned right-back Alvaro Odriozola to Bayern Munich for the rest of the season.

The former Real Sociedad defender was in his second year at the Santiago Bernabeu, but had not featured since his red card in Los Blancos' last defeat – the 1-0 loss away to Mallorca in October.

Odriozola was absent from training on Tuesday and coach Zinedine Zidane admitted in his latest press conference that the 24-year-old was close to a move.

"Real Madrid C. F. and Bayern Munich have agreed on a loan deal for the player Alvaro Odriozola for this season, until June 30, 2020," Madrid said in a statement on their website on Wednesday.

The Spanish international has played just 27 games since signing for Real in 2018, with only five of those appearances coming during the current campaign.

At Bayern, he will provide competition for French World Cup-winning defender Benjamin Pavard, with Joshua Kimmich expected to feature in midfield.
