Rare tiger dies in fight at safari park

A rare tiger has died after a fight with two other tigers at a safari park.

Shouri, a 13-year-old female Amur tiger, roamed into a paddock at Longleat Safari Park, south of Bath in England, before he got into a fight with Red and Yana on Monday.

The park said the other two tigers were not injured in the fight, which took place while the park was not open to the public.

Shouri’s death comes less than a week after an endangered Sumatran tiger was killed by another tiger at London Zoo.

“Red and Yana arrived at Longleat last year as a breeding pair,” the park said in a statement.

“During the process of moving the tigers between the various outdoor paddocks, a door connecting two areas was opened which meant Shouri was able to gain access to the same outdoor area as Red and Yana.”

The park added its keepers who care for the big cats are “extremely distraught” by Shouri’s death.

A full investigation into the “terribly sad event” is underway.

Just 540 Amur tigers are believed to be alive today, following decades of hunting bringing them to the brink of extinction.

On Monday, a woman looking to smoke marijuana in an abandoned house was startled when she discovered a tiger in a cage inside.

She called authorities and Tyson the tiger has since been re-homed.
