Rapper dies while making music video on plane's wing
A Canadian rapper has died after falling from a plane’s wing mid-flight while attempting to film a music video.
Jon James McMurray, known by his stage name Jon James, 34, fell to his death in British Columbia on October 20 after he stepped too far along the wing sending the small Cessna aircraft spiralling down, a statement from his management confirmed.
“He died filming a project he had been working on for months,” the statement read.
His management said he had “trained intensely” for the stunt however the pilot couldn’t immediately correct the downwards projection.
“Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn’t have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly,” the statement continued.
The plane managed to land safely with the pilot unharmed.
The former professional skiier was no stranger to dangerous stunts and could regularly be seen performing heart-stopping moves in his music videos.
“Jon continually pushed his music into uncharted territory by merging his passion for performing incredible stunts with his groundbreaking music video production,” the statement said.
Following his death tributes poured in for the musician, with close friend Rory Bushfield labelling him a “good man”.
“He touched and lifted so many people in his brief stay here,” Mr Bushfield said on a GoFundMe page set up to help raise funds for a foundation allowing children to fulfil their dreams.
