Rand Paul: Spending bill shows Johnson a ‘weak, weak man’

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) slammed House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for the proposed spending bill, labeling him a “weak, weak man.”

“I had hoped to see @SpeakerJohnson grow a spine, but this bill full of pork shows he is a weak, weak man,” Paul wrote in a Wednesday post on social platform X.

Paul’s comments came after the continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government through March was released Tuesday night, prompting outrage and debate from both sides of the aisle. The CR is expected to be voted on sometime later this week.

“The debt will continue to grow. Ultimately the dollar will fail. Democrats are clueless and Big Gov Republicans are complicit,” he added.

House Republicans have faced internal controversy over the inclusion of disaster relief and aid for farmers amid the ticking timeline. Paul said he would oppose a short-term funding package that doesn’t include measures to offset the cost of new spending in the proposal.

“There are some big existing pay-fors and I think they should be forced to decide: Do you want to help the people in Asheville or do you want to help green-energy companies, multimillion-dollar companies with subsidies for green energy? There’s about $4 billion out there in that,” Paul said in a previous statement to The Hill.

Congress must come to an amicable agreement by Friday in order to keep the government funded ahead of President-elect Trump’s inauguration in January.
