Reports: Raiders CB Damon Arnette sued over alleged hit-and-run car crash, casino altercation

The Las Vegas Raiders drafted two players in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.

The first was wide receiver Henry Ruggs III, whose legal troubles need no introduction. The second was cornerback Damon Arnette, who is now facing legal issues of his own.

According to TMZ, a woman is suing Arnette over allegations that he injured her in a hit-and-run crash last year. The crash allegedly occurred at around 7:29 a.m. on Oct. 14, 2020, with the woman claiming Arnette slammed into her car while traveling around 65 mph.

The woman claims that Arnette thought he had missed a turn into the Raiders' nearby practice facility in Henderson, Nevada, so he swerved into her car while trying to make a right. She claims Arnette then "illegally left the scene of the crash" by going to the Raiders' practice facility afterwards.

Per TMZ, the woman says she suffered several injuries in the accident, including head trauma, and is now dealing with shoulder, neck and back pain as well as depression and panic attacks. Her damages are claimed to exceed $92,000.

Even more issues came a day later via Deadspin, which reported another lawsuit against Arnette over an alleged incident at a Vegas casino:

The second lawsuit revolves around an interaction Arnette had with a valet worker at the Aria Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The worker claims that after Arnette was told his car could not be recovered by the valet because Arnette lacked a valet receipt, the Raiders’ cornerback berated the worker, spat on him, and poked him in the chest. Arnette did have a valet receipt, but it was still in his hotel room. It was eventually recovered by Arnette’s girlfriend. The valet worker is seeking $500,000 for the altercation.

There is also apparently a video floating around of Arnette appearing to point multiple guns at the camera while threatening to kill someone (obviously NSFW). Deadspin reports the Raiders are expected to release Arnette soon, as they did with Ruggs.

Raiders CB denies hit-and-run claim through attorney

TMZ reports that police records show Arnette was cited for the alleged hit-and-run crash and admitted to making an unsafe right turn, but they also reportedly say that Arnette stayed long enough to render aid to the woman. The records say he said he left because he was running late to a meeting, but had a friend stay at the scene to provide contact information to the authorities.

However, the police reportedly claim the friend did not provide Arnette's info and tried to take the blame for the crash himself, leading to the police tracking down Arnette at the Raiders' facility.

Arnette's attorney, Richard Schonfeld, said the following to TMZ:

"Mr. Arnette denies the allegations in the complaint and looks forward to addressing these claims through the court process."

The Raiders drafted Arnette 19th overall out of Ohio State in 2020. The pick, controversial at the time, is widely viewed as a bust at this point, as Arnette was low on the depth chart before hitting injured reserve with a groin injury in Week 4.

In addition to Arnette and Ruggs, one of the Raiders' three 2019 first-round picks, Josh Jacobs, received a fine and community service after a single-car crash in which his blood alcohol level was below the Nevada legal limit.
