- Here are some quick facts you probably didn't know about snakes. Snakes do not have eyelids and can't close their eyes. By flicking its tongue, a snake can visualize its surroundings.

Growing up to eight meters in length, the scrub python is Australia's longest snake. Blind snakes are so small they are often mistaken for earthworms. The yellow-bellied sea snake is the world's most widely distributed snake. Some snake species still have skeletal remnants of limbs, including tiny hind leg bones.
