Initial symptoms to look out for are fever, lethargy, runny nose, moist cough and sore and red eyes. Following this, a rash usually appears on the face and spreads to the rest of the body.

Queensland Health has also urged people who may be experiencing symptoms to contact their doctor. Before visiting your GP, contact the medical practice to let them know you may be infected, to avoid spreading it to others.

Anyone born after 1965 who has not been fully vaccinated against the measles and was in the area should contact their GP.
