A Queensland man has drowned in a pool in Bali while holidaying in a large group for a friend's wedding.

Tyler Kennedy, 31, who was overseas for a friend's wedding, couldn't be revived after he was hauled from a Canggu villa pool on Wednesday night.

Close mate Jake Townsend reportedly went to look for Mr Kennedy when he found him on the bottom of the pool.

He and other friends tried desperately to revive him but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Friend Dean Carpenter told the Sunshine Coast Daily Tyler "was at the villa at about 8pm when he decided to go for a swim".

“Ten minutes had passed before Jake found him on the bottom of the pool. The families all grew up together.

“Jake and Tyler travelled the world together surfing. He did a lot of work away and last year worked on the Gold Coast with Jake.

In response to questions about the former Caloundra State High School student, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told AAP, it was providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian who died in Bali.

More to come.
