Queensland man oblivious to $1m Lotto win for one week

A north Queensland man went a week being completely oblivious to his division one Lotto win, as his ticket sat on his kitchen bench.

The man from Townsville was one of three division one winners in the Monday and Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 4049 who won $1 million each.

The numbers were drawn on Wednesday, February 3, however, the man didn’t know he had won as he put off checking his ticket for a week.

The Lott got in contact with the man on Wednesday, February 10 and he revealed he was utterly shocked by the win.

“Honestly, I’m speechless. I don’t know what to say,” he said.

It turns out the ticket had been sitting in the man’s kitchen since the numbers were drawn a full week earlier.

“I’ve only checked the ticket just now, it’s been sitting on the kitchen counter for the past week,” he told The Lott.

“I was heading to the shops, so I thought I’d check it before I left the house.

“I can’t believe it. I had to race to the newsagency after that and get them to check it over and over again.”

Man says he won’t have to ‘stress about little things’

The man said the $1 million win will allow him to enjoy his life “without stressing about the little things”.

“Life will be a lot easier,” he said.

“It will really take the pressure off. It will be great!”

The man purchased his winning ticket at The Strand Newsagency at North Ward Shopping Centre.
