Queensland driver rescued after driving over beach cliff

A man in his 40’s had to be winched to safety after his vehicle travelled over a cliff, crashing onto the rocks below, on Marine Parade in Coolangatta early Sunday morning.

Queensland Paramedics Critical Care and High Acuity Response Unit were called to the the intersection of Marine Parade and Tweed Terrace at 4.46am this morning after reports of a car leaving the roadway.

Authorities confirmed to Yahoo News Australia that an occupant of the vehicle had survived the accident.

A photo posted online by the Queensland Ambulance Twitter account showed the damaged vehicle smashed against the rocks below the cliff while ocean waves washed up against the truck.

The victim was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition with assistance from the QFES.

The cause of the accident is not yet known.
