Wedding joy for Queen's cousin as young royal marries in secret

The surprise royal weddings just keep coming this year, with the Queen’s cousin Princess Alexandra of Kent the latest to see a young family member walk down the aisle.

Flora Ogilvy, who is Princess Alexandra’s granddaughter, said ‘I do’ to former Swedish professional ice hockey player Timothy Vesterberg in a private ceremony at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace on Saturday.

Flora, 25, shared the happy news on Instagram after keeping it a secret for almost a week after tying the knot with Timothy, who now works as a financier.

“Timothy and I were married privately at Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace on Saturday 26th September,” Flora revealed.

“We are truly overjoyed and look forward to celebrating next year,” she added.

The Chapel Royal, of course, was the very same venue that Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi had picked for their own wedding back in May. The COVID-19 outbreak forced the couple to postpone their nuptials for several months until they decided to marry in a secret, last-minute ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge in Windsor.

With lockdown restrictions easing in some parts of the UK, it appears that Flora and Timothy were able to go ahead with their big day as planned, so here’s hoping there are no hard feelings between the two royal brides.

The 56th in line to the throne wore a stunning white bridal gown by Emilia Wickstead which featured long sleeves and a wide neckline, making it reminiscent of fellow royal Meghan Markle’s own wedding dress.

Flora, who runs a contemporary art agency, wore her long blonde hair in a half-up-half-down ‘do while her new husband sported a blue double-breasted suit and lavender tie.

Flora’s father, James Ogilvy, is the elder child and only son of Sir Angus Ogilvy and Princess Alexandra of Kent who is Queen Elizabeth II’s first cousin. James is also the godfather of Princess Eugenie, who recently announced that she and her husband Jack Brooksbank are expecting their first child.

Compared with her high-profile relatives, Flora appears to live a fairly ‘normal’ life however she has popped up at several public events such as on the Palace balcony at Trooping the Colour 2019 and in her car on the way to the Queen’s Christmas Day lunch.

She announced her engagement to Timothy in November 2019.
