Terrifying moment car merging on highway spins out of control in heavy rain

The moment a merging driver loses control and spins on a high-speed road during wet weather has been caught on camera.

In footage uploaded to Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page, the driver can be seen indicating and trying to change lanes during in heavy rain, but as the car starts to move over it begins to spin.

The vehicle ends up spinning 180 degrees while travelling across two lanes, before smashing into the concrete divider in the middle of the motorway.

It then continues travelling backwards down the motorway while knocking into the barrier a few more times.

The smash, which is believed to have happened at Tanah Merah in Queesland's south-east, startled those travelling behind it.

Footage of the accident was uploaded on Friday morning and has been viewed more than 31,000 times in a few hours.

Many commenting on the video agreed it is a timely reminder to be careful on the roads, especially in wet weather.

One person wrote, "After 17 years in the Emergency services, even with good tyres this can happen, This is why they say to drive to the conditions, Looks like a combination of speed and puddles on the road, a bit of pull.. over correction and away she goes."

"Slow down in the wet... and make sure your tyre tread is good for the conditions." another wrote online.
