A woman is fighting for life in hospital after she was brutally attacked in Queensland's Darling Downs.
Police were called to a home at Goomburra, north of Warwick, just before 1am on Thursday where they found the 46-year-old with a serious head injury.
She was initially taken to Warwick Hospital but was transferred to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
Emergency services were then called to a home at Glenore Grove, about 90 minutes' drive away, just after 2.30am.
There they found the body of a 57-year-old man, who is believed to have died in non-suspicious circumstances.
Police allege he had attempted to kill the woman, but Acting Detective Inspector Paul McCusker said it was still early in the investigation.
"We're obviously collecting evidence to determine who had contact with that scene at Goomburra and at Glenore Grove," he said on Thursday.
"We're very confident that the two people are well known to each other."
