The Bureau of Meteorology is warning southeast Queensland residents to prepare as a severe thunderstorms moves towards the coastline.
Damaging winds and large hailstones are expected to hit parts of Ipswich, Somerset, Toowoomba, the Lockyer Valley and Brisbane late on Thursday.
Golf ball-sized hail has already been reported at Mount Sylvia, south of Gatton, the bureau says.
Residents are advised to take shelter, move their vehicles under cover, beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
A severe thunderstorm warning has also been issued for parts of central Queensland, the Whitsundays and Darling Downs regions.
