Qld road workers unearth convict-era relic

Road workers have unearthed an important historical relic from Brisbane's convict era - a wooden bridge that was one of the first ever built in Queensland.

Crews working on the Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade have unearthed the bridge, believed to have been built in the 1860s.

Kingsford Smith Drive has a fascinating history spanning 188 years, with the road originally constructed by convict women in the late 1820s. Authorities will provide more details about the find on Wednesday.
