The victim lies defenseless on the ground as onlookers encourage the violence.

At one point, the young girl cries out, but her attacker doesn't stop.

Detective Sergeant Cameron Schneider, of Bundaberg Child Protection Unit, called the attack "confronting".

"The fact that it's a repeated assault on the young girl, she doesn't fight back at any time, and she is sitting down once the assault occurs."

He also condemned the actions of those who stood by and filmed the fight.

The woman who shared the vision online, and doesn't want to be identified, said her step-children sent her the video.

She told 7 News the clip was "very upsetting" and "devastating" but wanted to expose the teen thugs.

"I'm disgusted that this goes on in our city. So I thought sending it to the media and putting it online... something will get done."

Seven News understands the victim has not yet made an official complaint.

"We followed up with the young girl yesterday and we will continue to follow up with her to make sure she's well supported and see what she wants to happen from here," Det. Sgt Schneider said.

Officers are using this incident to reiterate their "one punch can kill" message.

"Any assault is appalling. The fact that it happened to a young girl there was a group of people involved a repeated assault -one punch can kill,” Det. Sgt Schneider said.
