Teen on his way to Schoolies stabbed in neck in allegedly random, unprovoked attack

A Brisbane teenager said to be bound for Schoolies celebrations has instead undergone surgery after being stabbed in the neck in an allegedly random and unprovoked attack.

He is in a serious condition at Princess Alexandria Hospital where doctors expect he will recover.

The 17-year-old was standing out the front of a hotel in Sunnybank around 10am Saturday, waiting for a mate who was buying alcohol at the adjoining bottleshop.

A man then came up to him, randomly tapping him on the hand.

Police say without any warning the man then pulled out a knife and stabbed the boy in the side of the neck.

Terrified, he ran across the road to Sunnybank Plaza for help.

In a bizarre twist, the 33-year-old alleged attacker called police himself and waited for officers to arrive.

He's been refused police bail and will spend the rest of the weekend in custody.

A 33-year-old man will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of going armed to cause fear and with acts intended to maim, disfigure or disable.

Police believe the victim and his friend were on their way to the Gold Coast for Schoolies.
