Brisbane rapist on the run dares police to 'come and get me'

A Queensland rapist on the run is taunting police on social media after cutting off his electronic tracking bracelet and fleeing yesterday.

Police believe Damien Kennedy risks is still in Brisbane’s south-east after he was last tracked at Rocklea.

The 28-year-old was released from jail two months ago on a supervision order, under the Dangerous Prisoners Sexual Offender act.

Authorities say his addiction to drugs may “give rise to sexually violent re-offending".

Twelve hours after fleeing authorities, Kennedy began a dangerous game of cat and mouse, claiming on Facebook to be in Rockhampton, writing “Come and get me mother f***ers”.

However, investigators believe that could be no more than a smokescreen and suspect the offender may be in Brisbane’s south or Logan areas.

It is believed Kennedy may be travelling in his silver 1999 Hyundai Sonata, possibly with a woman, police told 7 News.

His criminal history dates back 2008, when he was convicted of stealing, fraud and the assault and rape of a 49-year-old sex worker.

Court documents show he's had six major violations for drugs. Yesterday the convicted rapist again tested positive for illicit drugs before cutting off his GPS tracker and going on the run.

Rocklea residents told 7 News they didn't notice anything strange until police began patrolling the area last night.

“The Queensland Police Service was immediately notified and they are currently searching for Mr Kennedy,” Queensland Police Minister Mark Ryan said.

Hetty Johnston of Bravehearts feared for public safety with the “dangerous” offender still on the loose.

“The law is just allowing these people to just keep breaching and breaching and they get a slap on the wrist,” she told 7 News.

“Its no wonder he took it off because he's learnt to have zero respect for the law.”

He has a number of tattoos including "Southside" printed across his neck, “love & hate” written on his right inner forearm, “TROLL” printed on his shoulder, a full sleeve tattoo, and an Asian character on his right hand.
