Clothing used to start fire: Qld police

An alleged attempt to burn down a home in a Mount Isa suburb has failed after a police patrol arrived on the scene soon after and put out the fire.

A 38-year-old man, who was known to the occupant of the home, allegedly set fire to some clothing and put it inside the window at the rear of a home in the suburb of Pioneer.

The officers were alerted and managed to put the fire out with an extinguisher before it spread beyond the window.

The man was arrested a short time later and charged with arson, and is expected to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Saturday.
