Man charged in relation to Queensland hit and run, woman remains in critical condition

Police have charged a man in relation to a hit and run incident in Queensland on Thursday when a woman was knocked down by a large construction vehicle as she crossed the road.

Police were called to the intersection of Hamilton Place and Campbell Street in Bowen Hills just after 1am after reports 27-year-old Iuliana Stevenson had been hit by a vehicle.

Horrific CCTV footage shows Ms Stevenson crossing the road in Bowen Hills, seemingly oblivious to the large construction vehicle turning directly into her path.

With a small crane attached, the vehicle can be seen hitting her front on before driving over her.

The driver does not stop as she lays motionless in the middle of the road.

The vehicle momentarily pulls over further down the road but when another car approaches, it drives off once again.

Ms Stevenson remains in a critical condition at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital after undergoing emergency surgery.

Bystanders at the scene of the incident rushed to the aid of Ms Stevenson, who had suffered severe head injuries.

A 58-year-old Flinders View man has since been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, with callous disregard.

The man is due to appear in court on October 25.
