Eastern brown snake found in Brisbane couple's bed

A couple received a fright when an uninvited guest slithered into their bedroom in Brisbane's eastern suburbs this week.

The residents had spotted a brown-coloured reptile lurking on the floor of their room in Murrarie.

They phoned a snake catcher and were told to shut the door and seal the doorway.

"They weren't too pleased about it," Brisbane snake catcher Stewart Lalor told Seven News Online.

When Mr Lalor arrived he looked around the bedroom and found a venomous eastern brown had made itself at home, positioned comfortably under the covers.

"Good that they found it when they did and not when it was in bed," Mr Lalor told Seven News Online.

The snake catcher said the unwelcome visitor was a little uncertain but fairly calm for an eastern brown, joking maybe it was in a better mood after taking a nap.

The professional catcher was able to snap two pictures of the sneaky snake to post to Facebook before removing it safely.

"Fortunately these guys have no interest in humans and are only dangerous when interacted with, however in a situation like this the outcome could have been unfavourable" he wrote on Facebook.

He said while the eastern brown can be brown it can also vary a lot in colour and some have patterns on their skin.

Mr Lalor said it is good to have a snake identified by a professional.

"Always remember to leave snakes alone and call a professional snake catcher to deal with the situation," the snake catcher wrote online.

The snake was relocated away from any properties after being safely removed.
