Woman allegedly held in Uber for more than an hour

A driver has been charged with deprivation of liberty after he allegedly drove a woman across Brisbane against her will and refused to let her out of the car.

The woman, 25, was using a ride-sharing service to get to a Fortitude Valley bar on Saturday night when it is alleged the driver refused to pull over, instead driving for more than an hour to south Brisbane via the Clem 7 Tunnel.

The victim tried to get help from passing motorists, opening her door in an effort to get the driver to pull over before he stopped on the M1 and she was able to call police.

A 45-year-old man has been charged with one count of deprivation of liberty and is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 5.
