Shattered uncle demanding answers over toddler's tragic death

The uncle of a Northgate toddler who died as a result of severe burns says he is devastated and struggling to believe she's gone.

Maddilyn-Rose Stokes is being remembered as a happy child, as police continue to question her parents over the circumstances surrounding her death.

The two-year-old had suffered serious burns to the lower part of her body, injuries which her parents say she suffered in a hot bath.

On Thursday night, Maddlyin-Rose stopped breathing.

"Just Friday gone I find out my niece is no longer with us,” her uncle Glyn Stokes told 7 News.

"There's no words for how it feels.”

Glyn Stokes hadn’t spoken to his youngest brother and Maddilyn-Rose’s father Shane Stokes since 2015 after they cut contact with him.

He had reported the Queensland parents because he believed the toddler was malnourished.

They were charged with child cruelty, which was downgraded to failing to provide the necessities of life.

They received 18-month good behaviour bonds.
