Tree impales car narrowly missing Queensland baby

A rescue crew in Central Queensland say a 10-month-old boy and his pregnant mother "cheated death" after a crash where the car they were travelling in struck a tree before rolling and being impaled by a tree trunk.

The accident happened on Thursday afternoon at about 1pm north-west of Clermont after it is believed the driver of the Toyota Landcruiser lost control, according to a statement from RACQ CQ Rescue.

There were three occupants in the car at the time, when authorities say the vehicle smashed into a tree and rolled.

As a result of the crash, the car was impaled near the left rear tire by a large tree trunk.

It punctured through the car's body and into the interior, a rescue air crewman said.

The baby had been restrained just centimetres from where the tree had speared through the 4WD, RACQ CQ Rescue said.

The helicopter crewman for the RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter said it was a "miracle" the child survived with only minor injuries.

According to a statement it's thought the occupants of the car were a family from a property near Alpha.
