Fed up Queenslanders hit tipping point over bizarre car crimes

A peculiar attack on a car has set tempers boiling for a Queensland community which insists something must be done to put at end to the infuriating crimes.

A bizarre photo of a car on its side, which is meant to illustrate Redland City’s ongoing car theft problems, is reportedly just one of several incidents in Russell Island’s jetty car park.

Redland Bay resident Vivien Fleming has called on Redland City Council to install CCTV.

“This is disgusting,” she said.

“In the space of nine days I had fuel stolen from two different cars parked overnight.”

Jennifer Broad also posted a picture of a car with its back window smashed in the same area in January.

“Another incident the CCTV cameras could have prevented,” she said.

Redland City Council encouraged residents to contact police but said there were no plans to install CCTV at the jetty.

It comes after The Redland City Bulletin reported criminals were targeting cars in other areas of Redland City.

Queensland police urged residents to ramp up security after attempts were made to steal a car at the Cleveland ferry terminal on April 5 and 8.

While last month there was fuel stolen from a car on March 10 and 24, attempted theft on March 28 and a vehicle damaged between March 19 and 23.

Police said there were no reported incidents of thefts on Russell Island.
